About Marlon Pastrana

Dr. Pastrana was born and raised in Cuba. Since coming to the US in 2002, Dr. Pastrana has studied diligently to become a surgeon and help patients in need. During his journey to become a surgeon, Dr. Pastrana has studied medicine in the Caribbean, London and New York.

He started his general surgery residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) and graduated at Hahnemann Hospital of Drexel University. He later went to St. Luke’s University Hospital in Allentown, PA to specialize in weight loss and reflux surgery.

He is very passionate about treating patients with morbid obesity. Through weight loss surgery he provides significant improvement in the patient’s health and quality of life. Dr. Pastrana is skilled in both methods of bariatric surgery; laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He performs procedures such as Sleeve Gastrectomy, Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass and Lap Band among others. He takes great care in personalizing the surgery to his patients based on patient characteristics and comorbidities. He understands that each patient is special and one surgery does not fit all. He also specializes in treating complications developed from prior bariatric surgeries, such as anastomotic ulcers, strictures, weight regain, reflux after Sleeve and internal hernias.

Dr. Pastrana is a board-certified general surgeon and fellowship trained weight loss surgeon currently in private practice. He specializes in surgery of the thyroid, parathyroid glands, breasts, adrenal glands, stomach, gallbladder, appendix, small intestine, colon, rectum. He has a special interest in hiatal hernia repair and antireflux procedures such as Nissen and Toupet fundoplications.

He is one of the few surgeons in Florida who performs endoscopic radiofrequency ablation of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) called Stretta. This procedure is used to treat acid reflux disease. He also performs upper endoscopy and colonoscopy to diagnose/treat ulcers, tumors, polyps and colon cancer. In addition, Dr. Pastrana performs surgery for common hernias such as inguinal, umbilical, femoral, ventral, incisional and diaphragmatic among others. These surgeries could be performed either laparoscopically or robotically.

After working many years outside of Florida. Dr. Pastrana returned to Miami to help reduce morbid obesity in the South Florida community. He speaks both English and Spanish fluently.

He lives with his wife Dr. Ingrid Paredes a gynecologist, and his three children.
